About The Position

The girls basketball coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing a positive and competitive middle school athletic program. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for student-athletes. Coaches work closely with the athletic director, the after school activities coordinator, school administration, staff, students, and families to support the overall mission of the school.

Requirements

Experience coaching or participating in the sport at the youth, middle school, or higher level.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work positively with middle school-aged students.
Knowledge of age-appropriate training techniques and skill development.
Ability to manage team dynamics and support student growth both on and off the field.
Required background checks and district/school clearances.
Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
White Fleet training through FUSD's transportation department required (complete after hiring).

Nice To Haves

CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required.
Teaching or coaching experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and lead all practices and team activities.
Teach sport-specific fundamentals, rules, and strategies appropriate for middle school athletes.
Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect at all times.
Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes growth, effort, and learning.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and administration.
Ensure compliance with school, league, and district policies and procedures.
Maintain attendance, equipment inventories, uniforms, and basic records as required.
Collaborate with co-coaches.
Model professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students.
Prioritize student safety, including proper warm-ups, conditioning, and injury protocols.
