About The Position

Montgomery County Public Schools is hiring an Assistant Varsity Girls' Basketball Coach at Christiansburg High School for the 2026–2027 school year. Under the direction of the Athletic Director and/or Principal, the coach plans and implements a high-quality athletic program emphasizing fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and athlete safety. The coach also supports high academic standards by monitoring team members’ academic performance and ensuring they meet eligibility requirements.

This is a supplemental coaching assignment for the designated athletic season, not a separate salaried position. It is compensated under the School Board-approved athletic supplement schedule. The assignment covers November 9, 2026, through March 13, 2027; compensation may be prorated if the coach does not complete the full designated period. Appointment to this assignment does not guarantee appointment or reappointment to a coaching role in a future season or school year.

The schedule depends on the sport and may include practices, competitions, tournaments, meetings, travel, and other activities before or after the regular school day, in the evenings, on weekends, and during school holidays or breaks when scheduled and permitted by the VHSL.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be age 21 or older.
• Successfully complete Virginia High School League (VHSL) required courses.
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and school administrators.
• Ability to motivate students.
• Dependability and punctuality.
• Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a coach or participation in the sport at the high school or college level.
• Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a high-quality athletic program emphasizing fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

• Attend practices, competitions, tournaments, meetings, travel, and other sport-related activities as required by the assignment.
