About The Position

Mead High School is seeking a Girls Assistant Cross Country Coach for the Fall 2026-2027 season. This (.7) FTE position involves providing knowledge, motivation, and leadership to student-athletes, aiming to help them excel to their full potential while fostering physical well-being, moral character, and social/mental development within an educational context.

Requirements

  • Must be 19 or older.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season.
  • Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program.
  • Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
  • Ability to plan practices and events, and organize all the necessary materials and personnel to carry out the activity.
  • Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes regarding the techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport.
  • Develop and organize a practice program.
  • Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed-upon schedules (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.).
  • Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, ensuring their whereabouts are known at all times.
  • Supervise athletes during all activities related to athletic events, including practices, games, camps, and travel.
  • Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and ensure it aligns with the total school program.
  • Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct, respecting and supporting contest officials.
  • Foster an appreciation for the values of athletics, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community among participants and spectators.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle to student-athletes.
  • Ensure all athletes have completed and submitted required documentation, including medical insurance coverage forms and passed required medical examinations before the practice season begins.
  • Communicate with parents regarding team rules and athletic department guidelines.
  • Confer with parents/guardians as necessary regarding the athletic performance and/or conduct of their student.
  • Understand and adhere to the student-athlete handbook.
  • Follow state, conference, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Adhere to all safety laws and district policies.
  • Follow injury, care, and prevention procedures as documented in the Mead School District Athletic Policies and Procedures.
  • Complete and submit accident reports for any injury to the school principal or designee.
  • Recognize and adhere to any athlete's health plans.
  • Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the student nondiscrimination policy.
  • Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA-approved rule clinic for the sport being coached.
  • Hold valid first aid and CPR certifications.
  • Complete training as required by the District and the WIAA.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by District Administrators or the Athletic Director.
