About The Position
The Elementary Gifted Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to gifted students in accordance with state standards and district policies. This role involves identifying and serving the unique educational needs of gifted learners, promoting critical thinking and creativity, and fostering a challenging and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a Virginia teaching license in Elementary Education.
- Demonstrated experience working with gifted students or implementing gifted education programs.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development, differentiation strategies, and instructional techniques for gifted learners.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Nice To Haves
- Additional certification or endorsement in Gifted Education preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of gifted students.
- Conduct assessments to identify gifted students and determine appropriate programming and interventions.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or plans for identified gifted students.
- Provide direct instruction to gifted students through small group or pull-out sessions, focusing on advanced content, critical thinking skills, and creativity.
- Design and facilitate enrichment activities, projects, and competitions to extend and deepen gifted students' learning experiences.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and communicate regularly with students, parents, and stakeholders.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for gifted education within the school and community, providing professional development and support to colleagues and parents.
- Stay current with research and best practices in gifted education, attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions as needed.
