About The Position

Beyond Housing is seeking a Gift Officer to build meaningful relationships, inspire investment, and secure resources for community development in the St. Louis region. This role involves connecting individuals who want to make a difference with a vision for lasting change. Beyond Housing is a community development organization focused on strengthening families and transforming under-resourced communities through coordinated effort, strong relationships, and sustained investment. The Gift Officer will inspire this investment by acting as a proven relationship builder with a business development discipline, capable of consistent activity, opening doors, building trust, communicating value, and securing commitments. The ideal candidate may come from fundraising, sales, banking, business development, account management, financial services, or relationship management, with a focus on building trust, holding quality conversations, managing a pipeline, and achieving goals. Success requires consistent activity, strong follow-through, thoughtful relationship development, and the ability to convert conversations into commitments.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, corporate partnerships, business development, account management, relationship management, banking, financial services, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships, managing a portfolio, creating opportunities, and closing commitments.
  • Strong comfort with goals, performance metrics, pipeline management, and accountability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with donors, prospects, board members, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, persistence, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for donor meetings, events, and community activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in major gifts, corporate philanthropy, planned giving, nonprofit development, corporate partnerships, or donor stewardship.
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge®, Salesforce, HubSpot, or another CRM system.
  • Experience working with senior leaders, board members, business owners, executives, donors, or high-net-worth individuals.
  • Experience developing proposals, briefing materials, presentations, or customized relationship strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of up to 150 donors and prospects.
  • Build and manage a disciplined pipeline of donor and prospect relationships.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close major gifts that generate meaningful philanthropic revenue.
  • Lead consultative, value-based conversations with donors and prospects to understand their interests, motivations, and capacity.
  • Translate Beyond Housing’s comprehensive community development work into a clear, compelling case for support.
  • Develop customized giving opportunities that align donor interests with organizational priorities.
  • Work closely with senior leaders, board members, staff, and volunteers to identify and engage new prospects.
  • Prepare prospects for timely and appropriate solicitations based on relationship stage, capacity, and interest.
  • Partner with the Development Manager and supervisor to develop donor research, briefing materials, proposals, and stewardship communications.
  • Cultivate and expand planned giving opportunities with new and existing donors in collaboration with the Development Manager and supervisor.
  • Track all donor and prospect activity in Raiser’s Edge® or the organization’s donor management system.
  • Stay current on Beyond Housing’s priorities, programs, strategic initiatives, financial needs, and community impact.
  • Represent Beyond Housing with professionalism, urgency, discretion, and integrity.
