About The Position

MANNA is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia providing nutrition services to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. By providing medically tailored meals and nutrition education, we empower people to improve their health and quality of life. MANNA’s Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will support the Senior Philanthropy Manager and Chief Advancement Officer in developing and executing on major and planned giving strategies and will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with existing and new mid and high-level donors. The MGO will make meaningful connections with donors and prospective donors and clearly communicate MANNA’s mission, impact, and organizational needs, helping drive individual fundraising revenue for the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate levels of experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising setting required, preferably in a major gifts, individual giving, capital campaign, or similar development role.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and soliciting major gifts, generally in the five-figure range.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, as well as writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills; detail-oriented.
  • Positive attitude, flexible, adaptable, self-motivated, and a team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; Knowledge of Salesforce or similar donor database preferred.
  • Ability to operate within fixed deadlines while balancing multiple priorities; and to manage projects independently, as well as collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong, meaningful, authentic, long-term relationships with donors and prospects, focusing on transformational relationships that culminate in major gifts.
  • Implement individualized cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies for each prospect in the portfolio, understanding why individuals/families become new donors.
  • Plan and execute personalized donor engagement activities, including meetings, facility tours, events and other networking opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate stewardship of major donors, including thank you calls, letters, and reports on the impact of their gifts.
  • Conduct tours of MANNA’s facility to demonstrate our operations to donors and prospects.
  • Create personalized donor recognition strategies, going above and beyond to thank and recognize donors.
  • Understand the motivations of volunteers who donate and help create respectful relationships that honor, quantify, and celebrate the various ways people support MANNA.
  • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a strengthened and increased relationship with MANNA’s mission.
  • Manage a portfolio of 100-150 existing major gift donors while prospecting and cultivating new donors with a goal of securing an increased number of major ($1,000+) and planned gifts.
  • Connect with prospects and donors through regular face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and written correspondence, and assist other leadership with their solicitation efforts (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
  • Work with Senior Philanthropy Manager to create and implement moves management plans for all major donors as part of overarching annual individual giving plans.
  • Work with leadership to build a sustainable program of donors giving leadership gifts of at least $25,000 including special events and recognition.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify and secure new major gift prospects while also learning more about prospects within and outside the organization.
  • Track and report on progress towards major gift goals, as well as donor interactions, proposals, and gift commitments via moves management tools.
  • Help manage systems to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including donor database and wealth screening tools, in collaboration with the Senior Philanthropy Manager and Donor Relations Specialist.
  • Help maintain accurate and up-to-date transaction and contact records in MANNA’s donor database.
  • Contribute to departmental strategic planning and long-term revenue forecasting.
  • Stay informed on philanthropic trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure MANNA’s fundraising efforts remain innovative, competitive, and nimble.
  • Work closely with Chief Advancement Officer, Senior Philanthropy Manager and other team members to align major gift strategies with overall fundraising initiatives and goals.
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to understand funding needs and articulate compelling cases for support.
  • Support the Development team by assisting in event planning and execution and contributing to the success of the entire department.

  • Support Kitchen, Distribution, and Events on an as-needed basis.
  • Participate in staff meetings, attend community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally.
  • Participate in ad hoc or organizational-wide committees or workgroups.
