About The Position

Inova McLean Surgery Center is a full service ambulatory outpatient facility. We are licensed, Medicare certified, and AAAHC accredited. We provide cost-effective outpatient services using modern, state-of-the-art technology in a friendly and caring environment by highly-skilled, compassionate staff. We are seeking a GI Technician to join our team. The Endoscopy/GI Technician plays an essential role in supporting endoscopic procedures, focusing on equipment preparation, patient care, and assisting clinical staff. Working under the direction of nurses and gastroenterologists, the Endoscopy/GI Technician ensures that all necessary equipment is sterile, operational, and ready for use, and helps maintain a safe, clean environment for patients throughout their procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification
  • Completion of Endoscopy Technician Training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon start
  • Strong understanding of sterile processing and infection control procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience as an Endoscopy/GI Technician preferred
  • Experience in an acute or ambulatory setting is desired
  • The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Advanced Program completion, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set up, calibrate, and ensure high-level disinfection (HLD) of all endoscopic instruments and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Support the clinical team during endoscopic procedures by handing instruments to the physician, assisting with specimen collection, and ensuring the patient’s comfort.
  • Help prepare patients for procedures, provide support and reassurance, and assist with patient positioning.
  • Aid in the post-procedure process, including cleaning and preparing the room for the next patient.
  • Follow strict infection control guidelines, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment, rooms, and instruments according to regulatory standards.
  • Record procedure details, patient information, and any instrument usage or issues accurately.
  • Communicate with clinical staff to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
