About The Position

GI Technicians prepare rooms and equipment before endoscopic procedures and clean up and sterilize after procedures. They maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies for endoscopic procedures, ensuring equipment functions properly. GI Technicians prepare waiting and recovery rooms or procedure suites and maintain endoscopic equipment, including cleaning, disinfecting, and calibrating instruments according to manufacturer guidelines. They transport patients according to medical personnel instructions, help physicians and nurses perform endoscopic procedures, and attend training as necessary to enhance or refresh skills. Additionally, they collect specimens from patients, collaborate effectively with other care providers regarding procedures and patients' conditions, and stay current on endoscopy developments by reading literature, speaking with colleagues, or participating in professional organizations. This role also assists with Business Office Support duties and will be trained on EPIC applications and front desk registration & copay collection. The Mt. Laurel and Willingboro locations are outpatient units, while the Special Test Unit (STU) in the main hospital is an outpatient and inpatient unit. These units serve the diagnostic and therapeutic needs of the Gastroenterology Division, performing common procedures like upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. The STU also performs airway endoscopy procedures (bronchoscopy). All units are staffed by surgical schedulers, patient service representatives, nurses, and GI technicians, with anesthesiology present for all GI procedures. Nurses rotate through various roles including admission, procedure suites, recovery, and pre-admission testing, requiring familiarity with all GI Unit roles and procedures.

Requirements

  • GI tech experience and/or patient care experience (medical assistant, patient care technician, etc.)
  • Ability to learn IDX and EPIC applications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
