About The Position

The GI Technical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting physicians during surgical and diagnostic procedures. This position involves preparing rooms, setting up equipment, monitoring patient vital signs, and assisting patients in the recovery room. The role also includes maintaining and cleaning equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory documentation. Additionally, the GI Technical Assistant assists the Surgical Suite Team with patient transport, operating room turnover, and preparing patients for procedures. Collaboration with the Supply and Equipment Supervisor for inventory management and participation in staff meetings and mandatory training are also key aspects of this role. The position may also involve assisting with the orientation of new personnel and participating in on-call duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Minimum of High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Two years recent experience (within the past 5 years) as Nursing Assistant OR Two years recent experience (within the past 5 years) as a CNA OR Two years recent experience (within the past 5 years) as an EC Tech

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians with tests performed throughout the surgical and diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepares rooms and sets up required equipment.
  • Takes vital signs and positions patient on table.
  • Assists patients in recovery room as needed.
  • Prepares rooms for the next procedure.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and supplies used for endoscopic procedures.
  • Maintains documentation of environmental and equipment monitoring required by the State and/or other regulatory agencies.
  • Communicates with Sterile Processing specific information pertaining to added procedures and specialty needs.
  • Maintains and periodically reviews the inventory of specially ordered medical/surgical supplies.
  • Assists members of the Surgical Suite Team in maintaining the operative schedule by transporting patients, turning over operating rooms, and performs shave preps according to prep manual, standing or specific written doctor’s orders.
  • Assists the Supply and Equipment Supervisor in maintaining adequate inventories of supplies through accurate reporting of shortages, damaged or defective equipment.
  • Participates in at least 4 unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory programs.
  • Assists in orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Participates in on-call as assigned.
  • Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her supervisor.
