About The Position

The Gastrointestinal Technician (GI Tech), also referred to as a GI Technician or Endoscopy Technician, supports endoscopic procedures and patient care in the gastroenterology department. The role assists physicians with procedures such as colonoscopies and endoscopies. The position is full-time, with day shifts of eight hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Requirements

At least six months of medical experience in a medical office or specialty clinic.
High school diploma or GED.
BCLS (AHA) certification upon hire and maintenance of current certification.

Nice To Haves

Gastroenterology experience is preferred.
An Associate of Science in surgical technology or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing patients for endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and endoscopies.
Set up, assist with, and maintain endoscopic equipment, including endoscopes, light sources, video processors, and insufflation systems; ensure tools are sterilized and functional.
Monitor and record patient vital signs during endoscopic procedures and promptly notify the medical team of significant changes.
Sterilize instruments and maintain clean procedure rooms in accordance with infection control protocols.
Provide patients with post-procedure care instructions, including activity restrictions, medication guidelines, signs of complications, and follow-up appointment details.
Coordinate tasks with GI Technicians and other staff to support efficient procedure flow and consistent patient care in the endoscopy department.
