About The Position

GI Tech II Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. Summary/Objective: To assist Gastroenterologist with Endoscopy procedures. To provide safe, clean, and inspected items for procedures. Will be able to perform level I and II at any time, as required by staffing needs. Once level II is mastered, will advance to level III training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • GI experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant License or Surgical Tech.
  • BLS certified.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of a GI Technician level I and II.
  • Improves and/or supports others in improving the health and well-being of all patients through excellence in patient care and teaching.
  • Be knowledgeable about professional and practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Galen clinical policies, State Regulations, AAAHC guidelines, and OSHA standards.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with facility requirements and safety standards set forth by the organization.
  • Maintains neat, orderly, and safe work area and practices economy in the use of all supplies.
  • Prepares the procedure room, equipment, and Endoscopes for each procedure.
  • Responsible for care and handling of all GI Endoscopes and equipment used in the procedure.
  • In accordance with doctor’s preferences and established standards, ensures that all instruments, equipment, and supplies are present for the gastroenterological procedure.
  • After the physician initiates time-out, participate in the time-out protocol immediately prior to starting the procedure.
  • Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for procedure.
  • Properly handles forceps, snares, injectors, and any other required equipment during the procedure.
  • Assist the circulating technician/nurse with patient needs during the procedure.
  • May be required to assist in applying abdominal pressure per physician instructions.
  • Always follow manufacturer’s recommendations for proper bedside disinfection of the endoscopes.
  • Properly disposes of contaminated supplies and equipment.
  • Properly transports contaminated endoscopes to the disinfection/decontamination room.
  • Properly disinfects the procedure room between procedures and prepares the procedure room for the next patient.
  • Terminally cleans procedure room and equipment at the end of the day.
  • Restock supplies and equipment daily and as needed throughout the day.
  • Keeps areas neat, tidy, and organized throughout the day.
  • Ensures that all equipment is functional.
  • Ensures that all supply levels are maintained.
  • Monitors dated supplies to ensure sterility.
  • Assists in the orientation/training of new GI tech level I & II personnel.
  • Creates a work environment conducive to productive performance and learning.
  • Identifies educational and training needs for all personnel.
  • Report any unusual incidents or occurrences to the Clinical Manager.
  • Consults with the Clinical Manager administrative issues and problems.
  • Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury.
  • Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to the Clinical Manager and documents same.
  • Assists in product evaluation.
  • Keep stock put away as it comes in, keep hallway clear, and to one side for safety reasons.
  • Break boxes down if needed.
  • Promotes responsibility as a member of the GI team by displaying a professional attitude.
  • Responsible for attending annual department training, fire/safety, and infection control education.
  • Maintaining knowledge of safety procedures within the facility.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain BLS certification.
  • Assist in Pre-op and PACU as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Clinical Manager.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, medical, financial, and legal information.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
