About The Position

Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the pre- and post- operative stages that are undergoing gastroenterological procedures and treatments. Assess patient needs, develop individualized care plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for patient education and support.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license required.
  • Demonstrated ability in perioperative nursing required; 1 year minimum.
  • BLS and ACLS Certifications required.
  • Computer skills required with minimum proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in gastroenterology or related field is preferred, but not required. New graduates with a strong interest in GI nursing are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ health status, including medical history, physical examination, and vital signs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments, working closely with gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide comprehensive education to patients and their appropriate party about gastrointestinal conditions, procedures, and post-operative care.
  • Assist during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Assist in maintenance and care of supplies, equipment, and instruments in procedural room.
  • Assist in preparing operating rooms.
  • Continuously monitor patients’ conditions before and after procedures, identifying and addressing any complications or concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, care plans, and progress notes in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Report adverse events or adverse incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with the healthcare team, including physicians, and procedural team to deliver patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of best practices and protocols.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that patients’ rights and preferences are respected throughout their care journey.
