Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
  • National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to obtain a nursing license.
  • Must possess 2 years of recent experience as a Geriatric RN.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Must have completed an accredited training course in nursing through the State of California.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments for elderly patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor and manage chronic illnesses and medication.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families.
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of older adults.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and mobility.
  • Assess and address mental health and cognitive issues.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Stay updated on best practices and changes in geriatric care.
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
