About The Position

This internship position provides hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering. Interns will assist with various aspects of geotechnical investigations, including laboratory testing, documentation, field explorations, and sample classification. The role offers exposure to how structures are supported and encourages innovative thinking. The position requires the intern to have suitable transportation for job sites, with mileage reimbursement provided. A key physical requirement involves carrying and lifting heavy loads.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related degree
• Interest in how structures are supported and a desire to think outside the box
• Must be able to provide suitable transportation for use on job sites - mileage will be reimbursed
• Position requires carrying 40 – 70 lbs multiple times a day or occasionally lifting 85 lbs to waist height

Responsibilities

• Assisting with performing lab testing
• Drafting boring logs and location diagrams
• Scheduling of drill rigs for geotechnical projects
• Obtaining utility clearance for subsurface explorations
• Assisting with the subsurface exploration program and preparing drilling instructions
• Performing boring and test pit layouts by both conventional surveying and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
• Classifying soil samples
• Performing hand augers to obtain subsurface information and soil samples
• Observing foundation or ground improvement installations
