Looking to get the most out of your upcoming internship? Hatch is currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Student for a position in the Geotechnical department in our Vancouver, BC office. The Vancouver office specializes in infrastructure, renewable power, and mining projects. If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and innovate, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

  • 3rd or 4th year student enrolled in a Geological Engineering or Earth Sciences program from an accredited University, after which graduates will meet the academic requirements for licensure as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist.
  • Keen attitude towards learning and an openness to try many different projects across industries, as available during your work term.
  • Attention to detail and dedication to quality.
  • Flexibility for field and office work (role is office-based but site opportunities may arise).
  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RocScience, GeoStudio, PLAXIS, and/or Leapfrog an asset but not required.
  • Previous experience with management and processing of large data sets considered an asset.
  • Proactive approach to taking on independent tasks and seeking out work.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our engineers, geoscientists, and designers.
  • Act as a technical resource on challenging projects.
  • Apply analytical, conceptual, research, and planning skills to support geotechnical investigations, geological characterization, and geotechnical design and analysis as well as construction.
  • Be exposed to modern design tools including 3D modeling, geotechnical analysis, and complex calculation software.
