About The Position

CTL Engineering is hiring a Geotechnical Engineer (EI or PE) to play a key role in performing geotechnical explorations and investigations for their clients. The role involves leveraging expertise and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies, Architects, Engineers, Developers, and project teams to deliver customized geotechnical studies, reports, and solutions. This position will guide projects through every stage of the land profile evaluation process, ensuring seamless integration and optimal results. The ideal candidate is passionate about staying ahead of industry trends, enjoys problem-solving, and has a creative approach to the geotechnical field. Projects range from infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and unique engineering, primarily located in Ohio, with potential for assignments near other CTL office locations. Overnight travel is not anticipated but may be required. A company vehicle can be provided or reimbursement for personal vehicle use. The role will initially be located at the west Columbus office, with the team moving to a new Corporate headquarters in New Albany in late 2026.

Requirements

4+ years of experience in consulting engineering on various civil projects
E.I. credentialing is required
Strong communication skills.
Ability to read design drawings.
Ability to meet schedules.
Experience with common geotechnical software or be able to utilize software with minimal training.
Self-motivated, reliable, quality minded, and detail oriented.

Nice To Haves

Already having PE licensure is a strong plus.
Masters or PhD Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

Performing geotechnical explorations, site characterizations, and risk evaluation on developments.
Assist with the training of lab technicians and reviewing lab report, management of equipment inventory and calibration, client marketing and proposal preparation.
Ability to work independently on broad projects with oversight/supervision by the Service Line Manager.
Providing direction on a project-to-project basis – i.e. preparing lab testing assignments, reviewing documents, and testing results for content and accuracy.
Preparing geotechnical engineering reports.
Interacting with clients on technical aspects of the projects.
Reviewing soils laboratory test results.
Assisting in planning and the execution of subsurface investigation programs - including the understanding of project design plans, locating test borings at project sites, coordinating underground utility clearance.
Design development and analysis of earth embankments, earth retaining structures and anchoring systems.
Performing analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations and slope stability evaluations.
Monitoring and enforcing quality control standards and specifications.
