About The Position

This role involves providing multi-regional support for geotechnical design. The engineer will review project documentation, analyze ground improvement options, develop design elements, and perform complex modeling and calculations. Responsibilities include coordinating design documents, ensuring quality control, and responding to project team inquiries. This position supports design efforts across multiple regions.

Requirements

  • Understands basic principles of geotechnical design and can perform basic calculations.
  • Proficient with slope stability analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook, familiar with AutoCAD.
  • Understands and adheres to Menard’s safety and quality standards.
  • Effectively communicates with internal project team members constantly throughout the project.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Develops ideas and offers alternatives to facilitate solutions.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, activities and commitments.
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with geotechnical design experience or coursework -OR- any equivalent combination of education and experience which meets the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • E.I.T. [Engineer in Training]

Responsibilities

  • Review and become familiar with reference background information such as geotechnical exploration reports, project specifications and civil/structural plans for use during design and preparation of the design drawings and calculations.
  • Analyze various ground improvement approaches and select the option that meets the project criteria.
  • Develop cross sections, generate soil profiles, and select soil properties for design.
  • Perform finite element modeling, as needed, to understand complex soil-structure interactions and estimate deformations and stresses within the soil and ground improvement elements.
  • Perform all required design calculations and analyses including, but not limited to, global stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and structural and geotechnical capacity of CMCs.
  • Coordinate or prepare design documents (final design calculations and drawings).
  • Review all Quality Assurance/Quality Control from the Field Engineer.
  • Respond quickly to questions from the project team and any conditions that deviate from the design.
  • Supports design efforts across multiple regions rather than a single assigned territory.
