About The Position

Our fast-paced Geospatial & Advanced Technology team is seeking a Geospatial Technician to join our team in Alberta. This position offers the opportunity to develop your skills and contribute innovative ideas while gaining experience across multiple geospatial technologies. This is a hybrid role, combining field data collection and office-based data processing. You will support the capture, processing, preparation, and extraction of survey data using advanced technologies such as 3D laser scanning, mobile mapping, and UAVs. The team is primarily based out of Calgary and Edmonton, with work supporting projects across Alberta and beyond. The team is based out of Calgary, Alberta, but this is also a remote opportunity. The successful candidate can be located anywhere in Canada. This position qualifies for work from home and uses remote access tools to support projects across the country as needed.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in geomatics, engineering technology, or a related discipline
  • 3–6 years of experience in surveying, geomatics, or geospatial data processing (entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply)
  • Experience or familiarity with drafting and feature extraction from point cloud data (e.g., AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MicroStation, TopoDOT, Trimble Business Center)
  • Exposure to processing point cloud data from technologies such as 3D laser scanning, mobile mapping, bathymetry, GPR, or UAV is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of as-built 3D modeling from point cloud data (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Plant3D, Cyclone 3DR) is an added value
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for survey plan preparation is an asset
  • Advanced Pilot is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS, Total Stations and Laser Scanners.
  • Experience of Trimble equipment and software considered an asset.
  • Understanding of basic surveying principles and requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks independently
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Willingness and ability to work in both field and office environments, including outdoor conditions

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform field survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  • Assist with field data collection using technologies such as terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping systems, and UAV platforms
  • Support field operations including equipment setup, target placement, site documentation, and adherence to safety protocols
  • Travel to project sites as required
  • Perform 3D feature extraction from geospatial data
  • Process geospatial data (terrestrial, aerial LiDAR, and photogrammetry) using software platforms such as Trimble Business Center, Leica Geosystems, and Pix4D
  • Examine field notes, sketches, plans, photos, and project scope to support deliverables
  • Draft accurate as-built survey plans using standard survey practices
  • Generate topographic surfaces from point cloud data
  • Perform volume calculations, surface analysis, monitoring, and reporting as required
  • Perform QA/QC on processed data and complete quality check reports
  • Ensure all deliverables meet GeoVerra quality and accuracy standards
  • Communicate data gaps, quality concerns, or coverage issues with project teams
  • Work collaboratively with both field and office teams
  • Complete assigned training and follow office and field safety requirements
  • Work flexible hours, including occasional extended days or weekends
