About The Position

The Washington Military Department’s Construction, Facilities, and Management Office (CFMO) is seeking a GIS Lead to provide strategic and technical leadership for the development, management, and application of geographic information systems. Reporting to the Planning and Program Branch Chief, the GIS Lead is CFMO’s geospatial subject matter expert, works independently across assignments, and provides guidance to lower-level GIS staff on complex issues. The role architects, manages, and leverages enterprise geospatial infrastructure—including facility, demographic, and regional asset data—to support planning, maintenance, and daily operations. This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation. The position leads geospatial application management, master planning and facility analysis, real-property reconciliation and data integrity, enterprise data management, and system administration support. Work includes developing secure mapping applications and data pipelines; supporting long-range planning, facility decisions, and recruiting-footprint analysis; reconciling GIS data with federal records; maintaining integrated GIS and CAD datasets; and administering CFMO geospatial applications and systems. The position is based at Camp Murray, Washington. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, either eight hours per day or four days per week at ten hours per day, with either Monday or Friday off. Work hours are established with the supervisor and fall between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Some telework may be available, but in-person work and meetings are required. Emergency assignments may involve alternate locations and rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings. Statewide travel, sometimes overnight, is required. Compensation depends on qualifications or applicable promotion rules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, geospatial science, computer science, or a related field, plus six years of experience in geographic information systems, cartographic principles, coordinating system transformations, and data interoperability or similar toolsets. Additional experience in these areas may substitute year-for-year for the degree requirement.
  • One year of CAD experience.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset, including commitment to learning and growth and ability to reflect, learn, and adapt to improve individual and organizational effectiveness.
  • Service-oriented approach, including willingness and ability to understand and meet others’ needs, remove barriers, and contribute to equitable, responsive service delivery.
