About The Position

Parsons is seeking a talented Geospatial Frontend Engineer to help develop next-generation, mission-critical applications for defense and national security missions. In this role, you will design and build responsive, intuitive user interfaces that help operators and decision-makers understand complex operational environments. You will work with large geospatial datasets, interactive two-dimensional and three-dimensional maps, real-time data streams, and situational awareness tools. This is an opportunity to solve challenging frontend engineering problems while contributing to technology that supports critical missions.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a heavy emphasis on React and modern frontend ecosystem tools. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Significant professional experience developing frontend applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, including ES6 and later, asynchronous programming, and contemporary frontend development practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing reusable, maintainable user interface components.
  • Experience working with geospatial data or mapping technologies, including one or more of the following: GeoJSON, KML, Raster or vector tiles, Coordinate reference systems, Geospatial APIs, OpenLayers, CesiumJS, MapLibre, Mapbox, or comparable libraries
  • Experience diagnosing and improving browser performance, including rendering, memory usage, network activity, and application responsiveness.
  • Experience creating automated tests using tools such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, or comparable frameworks.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a mission-focused, highly collaborative engineering environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Active security clearance at the level required for the applicable program.
  • Experience working on defense, intelligence, aerospace, or other national security applications.
  • Experience deploying applications in secure or regulated cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application deployment.
  • Experience developing applications that support DoD cybersecurity or compliance requirements, including applicable Impact Level requirements.
  • Experience with three-dimensional geospatial visualization using CesiumJS, Three.js, WebGL, or related technologies.
  • Experience developing custom WebGL shaders or optimizing GPU-accelerated visualizations.
  • Experience processing real-time or streaming data.
  • Experience working with geospatial databases, spatial analysis tools, or geospatial web services.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading frontend technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design frontend architecture: Help define and evolve the architecture of complex geospatial applications using React, TypeScript, and modern state management patterns.
  • Build geospatial visualizations: Develop high-performance mapping and visualization components using technologies such as OpenLayers, CesiumJS, WebGL, or related frameworks.
  • Work with large datasets: Create interfaces capable of displaying and interacting with substantial geospatial datasets, real-time feeds, and map layers.
  • Optimize application performance: Profile and improve rendering performance, memory usage, network activity, and interaction latency, including on hardware-constrained systems.
  • Develop data-intensive workflows: Use asynchronous programming, web workers, and efficient data-processing techniques to support demanding visualization and analysis workflows.
  • Integrate secure services: Partner with backend and DevOps engineers to integrate APIs, cloud-native services, authentication mechanisms, and secure data pipelines.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with UX and UI designers, product owners, systems engineers, and end users to create effective and intuitive mission-focused experiences.
  • Maintain engineering quality: Write maintainable, well-tested code; participate in design discussions and code reviews; and contribute to frontend standards and best practices.
  • Support team growth: Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help establish development practices that improve quality, consistency, and delivery.
  • Contribute to technical direction: Evaluate tools and technologies, identify opportunities for improvement, and help guide the evolution of the application platform.
