About The Position

ROGII is seeking a Geoscience Data Migration Specialist to join their team. This role focuses on helping clients in the Oil & Gas industry migrate their geoscience and subsurface data from legacy on-prem databases to the cloud. The specialist will work with clients to understand their current data storage, customization, and usage, and then develop migration roadmaps to minimize disruption. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in data and IT, along with strong relationship-building skills to gain the trust of DBAs, geoscientists, and other stakeholders. The role involves mapping workflows, identifying data and customizations, spotting gaps in current cloud offerings, and translating these into product requirements. The specialist will also be responsible for creating migration assessments and a reusable playbook, ensuring data is mapped, transformed, and validated for cloud migration, and proactively identifying risks. This is a self-directed role that requires building relationships, understanding customer data and processes, and acting as a liaison between sales, customer success, and product teams.

Requirements

  • Strong IT and database background, including SQL, relational data modeling, and hands-on experience with on-prem databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Experience with data migration and ETL processes.
  • Solid working knowledge of upstream oil & gas / geoscience data (well data, logs, interpretation data, and/or public and regulatory data).
  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust with deeply technical audiences (IT, DBAs) and end users (geoscientists, geotechs).
  • Genuine self-starter who operates with autonomy, sets their own priorities, and drives outcomes without constant management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to transition between technical migration discussions and business/end-user conversations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships and earn trust with IT staff, data managers, DBAs, and geoscientists at customer accounts.
  • Understand customer teams, processes, and politics surrounding their data.
  • Map customer geoscience workflows, from data ingestion to interpretation and usage.
  • Catalog customer data, including well headers, directional surveys, logs/LAS, formation tops, interpretation, production, and public/regulatory data.
  • Analyze on-prem data customizations (custom fields, scripts, integrations, naming conventions, tribal knowledge) and determine their transferability to a cloud database.
  • Identify gaps where customer dependencies on current systems are not met by the cloud platform.
  • Translate identified gaps into prioritized requirements for the product team, including reasoning and customer impact.
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure new features meet customer workflow needs.
  • Develop migration assessments for each account and a reusable playbook for scaling migration efforts.
  • Determine how data will be mapped, transformed, and validated during cloud migration.
  • Proactively identify and communicate risks to prevent migration stalls.
  • Act as a liaison between sales, customer success, and product teams.
  • Support sales and account teams in discussing migration strategies with confidence.
