About The Position

ROGII is seeking a Geoscience Data Migration Specialist to join their team. This full-time role involves working with clients in the upstream oil & gas industry to migrate their legacy on-prem databases to the cloud. The specialist will be responsible for understanding customer data storage, customization, and usage, and then creating migration roadmaps to minimize risks. This is a self-directed role where the individual will build the migration playbook. The position requires a blend of data/IT expertise and relationship-building skills to earn the trust of DBAs, geotechs, and translate customer needs into product requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong IT and database background, including SQL, relational data modeling, and hands-on experience with on-prem databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Experience with data migration and ETL processes.
  • Solid working knowledge of upstream oil & gas / geoscience data, such as well data, logs, interpretation data, and/or public and regulatory data.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust with both technical audiences (IT, DBAs) and end users (geoscientists, geotechs).
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate autonomously, set priorities, and drive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to transition between technical migration discussions and business/end-user conversations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships and earn trust with IT staff, data managers, DBAs, and geoscientists at customer accounts.
  • Understand customer workflows, data, and customizations, including custom fields, scripts, integrations, and tribal knowledge.
  • Identify gaps where customer dependencies on existing systems are not met by the cloud platform.
  • Translate identified gaps into prioritized requirements for product teams, including reasoning and customer impact.
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure product builds align with customer workflows.
  • Prepare migration assessments for each account and develop a reusable playbook for scaling.
  • Determine how data will be mapped, transformed, and validated during the migration process.
  • Proactively identify and communicate risks to prevent migration stalls.
  • Act as a liaison between sales, customer success, and product teams.
  • Support sales and account teams in discussing migration strategies with confidence.
