About The Position

The Geometry BIW Lead Engineer is responsible for controlling and coordinating Geometry Assurance within the Geometry Network for an assigned vehicle area throughout all project stages and into full production. This role involves cross-cluster and cross-project activities.

Requirements

  • Engineering college degree or above.
  • Majored in machinery or computer is preferred.
  • More than 8 years of working experience in the Geometry field.
  • Automobile industry experience is preferred.
  • Good leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Good process knowledge/experience of body shop and final assembly.
  • Good communication skills in English, oral and written.
  • Experience or ability to assimilate ideas and adapt them to your own operations.
  • Proficiency in Catia, Teamcenter, CM4D.
  • 6-Sigma Green, blue, or blackbelt.
  • Conversant with 2D drawing.
  • Good computer and MS Office skills.
  • Good English in speaking & writing.
  • Conversant with CM4D (Measurements Analysis tools).
  • Flexible approach to problem-solving, preferably certified Level 2 - 6 sigma.
  • Understanding of Space Mathematics and System Kinematics.
  • Fully conversant with the engineering, processes, and production of all components in the identified area.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise from System Solution, Final Demand, Supplier Capabilities, and Measuring of current Products to problem-solving teams, and summarize lessons learned for future projects.
  • Initiate and lead cross-functional teams (or support leading other GEs) for complex issue resolution involving different areas.
  • Provide geometry education and share geometry experience with internal geometry teams and plant problem-solving teams.
  • Determine and define additional measuring requirements for analysis, identifying the best equipment and methods, and providing suggestions based on measurements.
  • Analyze supplier measurement results and assess their impact on ongoing production builds.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of measurement results from the factory.
  • Evaluate modifications and adjustments resulting from factory analysis.
  • Support production parameter technicians in coordinating and maintaining the A to C geometry process.
  • Interface at a working level within the Volvo Geometry Network with similar responsible Engineers at all related Volvo establishments (e.g., VCT, VCG, VCBC, VCMM, VCCD, VCDQ, VCLQ etc.).
  • Recommend changes to geometric requirements based on investigations.
  • Evaluate modifications and adjustments resulting from this analysis.
  • Initiate updates to geometric requirements documents and CMM Programme changes as needed (e.g., Target Values, Measuring and Capability Points).
  • Create weekly geometry indicator management status reports to inform factory management of Geometry output, improvements, etc., within their specific areas.
