About The Position

Barr is seeking a geologist to join one of our Michigan offices. In this hybrid role, you will support the Assessment and Remediation business unit. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with performing or coordinating the completion of ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments in support of property transactions; helping to design, implement, and coordinate activities associated with Phase II investigations, including investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data and developing site conceptual models; developing site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs), including conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; estimating costs associated with these types of activities; completing contracting associated with these activities; assistance with the preparation of technical reports; and responding to quotes and proposals. Other responsibilities may include on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and soil gas; aquifer test performance and analysis; and construction observation. On-site investigation tasks may involve observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. While the position is in Michigan, periodic travel is required. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • 7 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license or ability to become registered within one year.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain).
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing, walking, kneeling, or crouching for extended periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site conditions.
  • Must be able to work individually in remote locations.
  • Ability to safely operate or work around environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Apply geologic expertise to conduct site investigations, develop site conceptual models, evaluate contaminated media, and support the development of remediation and site management strategies.
  • Coordinate field activities, manage subcontractors, support project budgets and schedules, and best ensure project milestones and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Evaluate complex site conditions and regulatory requirements to develop practical, effective environmental solutions and response strategies.
  • Prepare clear, compliant technical documentation and effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.
  • Perform or coordinate the completion of ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments.
  • Design, implement, and coordinate activities associated with Phase II investigations.
  • Interpret data and develop site conceptual models.
  • Develop site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs).
  • Conduct remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies.
  • Estimate costs associated with these types of activities.
  • Complete contracting associated with these activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports.
