About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for seeking an Entry-Level Career Geologist/Scientist for our Louisville, KY office. Be a part of our growing Earth & Environment team conducting field investigation projects that meet client objectives by solving challenging problems. Provide support to technical staff and project managers for due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects. Tasks may include collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor) and assisting with asbestos surveys. Generate accurate and concise documentation regarding field conditions. Ensure that responsibilities are delivered, and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Science or Environmental Science
  • 0 to 1 years of experience.
  • Familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor).
  • Assisting with asbestos surveys.
  • Generating accurate and concise documentation regarding field conditions.
  • Collecting, extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Reviewing, integrating, collecting data, and performing quality control for geologic, hydrogeologic, and other databases.
  • Maintaining quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and analysis.
  • Writing technical reports summarizing research with procedures, findings, and conclusions for due diligence and site investigation field work including Phase I and II ESAs.
  • Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.
  • Complying with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory documentation, written procedures, and field/work site logbooks.
  • Assisting with maintaining and calibrating equipment and tools, troubleshooting or reporting on malfunctions, and performing inventory control activities.
  • Assisting technical staff and project managers with environmental risk identification and assessment, mitigation activities, and remediation projects.
  • Working with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Assisting with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.
  • Completing training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
