About The Position

WSP is seeking an Entry-Level Career Geologist/Scientist for their Louisville, KY office. This role involves supporting the Earth & Environment team in conducting field investigation projects, including due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation. Responsibilities include collecting environmental samples (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor) and assisting with asbestos surveys, while ensuring accurate and concise documentation of field conditions and maintaining high-quality standards.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Science or Environmental Science
  • 0 to 1 years of experience
  • Familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, and to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking through all types of terrain.
  • Travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Travel will be required.

  • Completion of 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from various sampling media for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Review, integrate, collect data, and perform quality control for geologic, hydrogeologic, and other databases.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements and analysis.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research, procedures, findings, and conclusions for due diligence and site investigation field work.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including sample collection and laboratory documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining and calibrating equipment and tools, and performing inventory control.
  • Assist technical staff and project managers with environmental risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and remediation projects.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
