About The Position

The Geologist Lead will review and evaluate conditions of known or suspected contamination to determine the extent remediation needed and oversee remediation activities at potential Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) / Controlled Hazardous Substances (CSH) sites. The incumbent in this position will review the work of highly trained and experienced consultants and must independently evaluate their work. The incumbent will determine the potential public health and safety impacts of hazardous materials in the environment and in drinking water supplies. The Geologist Lead will also assign work, lead, and coach/mentor junior staff.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geology, Environmental Geology or a related earth science.
  • Five years of experience performing professional geological work.
  • Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Must maintain a driver's license with no more than five points on their driving record in order to drive a State vehicle.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reviewing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Experience reviewing Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Familiar with Environmental law and regulations.
  • Successfully complete and maintain certification as specified in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations (Standards-29 CFR) 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
  • Walk over rough or unstable terrain or over long distances while wearing personal protection equipment such as respiratory protection equipment.
  • Subject to ongoing medical testing in accordance with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations (Standards - 29 CFR) 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
  • Subject to call-in on a twenty-four hour basis and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
