About The Position

This is a 2-year position located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin. As part of a multi-disciplinary integrated research team investigating US tight oil / shale gas plays, the candidate will contribute to and advance RAMS geologic interpretation and geomodelling efforts.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Geology or closely related field
  • At least four years of experience in subsurface interpretation and geomodelling.
  • Experience with fracture modeling and impact of diagenesis on fracture development.
  • Significant experience with and/or advanced degree in statistics.
  • Experience with creating geologic models within Petrel.
  • Ability to code in Python and R.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Geology
  • Some petroleum industry experience (internships acceptable)
  • Familiarity with unconventional reservoirs.
  • Knowledge of the Barnett Shale play in the Permian Basin.
  • Experience with reservoir characterization and thermal modeling of basins.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct subsurface geological interpretation and analysis, including wireline log interpretation, core description, incorporation of petrophysical analyses, and mapping.
  • Construct, modify, and refine basin-scale 3D geo-cellular models of unconventional hydrocarbon resources. This will require working closely with the senior geologic modeler to understand the current state of models in different basins and current modeling workflows.
  • Contribute expertise to efforts in basin modeling and fracture analysis on an as-needed basis.
  • Document and present research in oral and poster formats to sponsors, in publications, and at regional and national meetings.
  • Perform internal and professional society service.
  • Interaction with sponsors and potential sponsors, collaborating with team members on program development.
