About The Position

Serve as a Training Specialist responsible to deliver formal system operation and maintenance training to active duty Navy and industry partners for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) at ARL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Eight years of experience in the operation, test, evaluation and employment of sophisticated Navy systems, including underwater acoustic systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of training product/curriculum development.
  • Possess the ability to deliver training to active duty Navy and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute installation, test and maintenance procedures of complex systems using formal Navy systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and training, including expertise developing and applying system level operating and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time.
  • The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy processes and procedures for the installation, test, maintenance, repair and removal of electronics equipment, including Temporary Alteration (TEMPALT) and Ship Alteration (SHIPALT) processes.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the operation, testing and repair of underwater systems and support systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and interact effectively with Navy enlisted personnel and officers as well as contractor system providers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Training Specialist, responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive curriculum material for unique underwater sensor systems and for a system of unmanned underwater vehicles with tactical sensors.
  • Serve as a team member for the development of operator training materials and for providing operator training.
  • Participate in formal documentation through the development of test and maintenance procedures and formal work packages.
  • Participate in the development of technical documentation and manuals to support operation and maintenance of unique underwater sensors.
  • Participate in system testing, maintenance and training onboard an Operational Training Platform, UUV support platforms and/or on US Navy platforms.
  • Provide field engineering support; use manuals and automated electronic tools to troubleshoot, assemble and repair electromechanical assemblies, computers and computer networks.
  • Serve as the Assistant Training Coordinator for an integrated team of Navy, contractor and laboratory personnel responsible for reviewing and approving all training materials as well as scheduling and coordinating training activities and scheduling with Navy, contractor and laboratory personnel.
  • Perform liaison tasks with sponsoring organizations and prepare and present formal progress and status briefs covering on-going activities.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors, program sponsors, project partner organizations, and system operators from the US Navy.
  • Research and incorporate new technologies for system enhancements.
  • Assist Supervisor and Engineers as required, travel as required.
  • Respond to emergent needs of end-users of advanced sensors with respect to logistics and operational availability.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
