About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an Entry-Level Geologist to join their Resilience Environment team in Sacramento, CA. This role is ideal for candidates graduating in May 2027, with a start date in Summer 2027. The position involves assisting Project Managers and Task Managers with environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation. A significant portion of the role includes fieldwork, where you will be trained to oversee drilling for soil and groundwater well installation, conduct groundwater sampling, manage subcontractors, and operate/maintain remediation systems. Health and safety are paramount during all fieldwork. The role also includes office-based tasks such as task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimation, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and subcontract establishment. The position requires strong communication skills, self-motivation, independent thinking, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting, including remotely. Adaptability, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving are key attributes for success. The role encompasses both office and field responsibilities, including supporting emergency response teams for incidents like train derailments and pipeline releases, which may involve unanticipated travel and work outside standard business hours. Fieldwork requires regional business travel (up to 1-2 days/week on average), with occasional US travel for up to two weeks. Estimated travel is up to 75% in the first two years, reducing to approximately 50% by the third year. Travel expenses are reimbursable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare subcontracts and oversee the work of subcontractors.
  • Write and prepare technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
  • Conduct task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.
  • Conduct field work including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling.
  • Oversee drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation.
  • Perform groundwater sampling.
  • Provide subcontractor oversight.
  • Operate and maintain remediation systems.
  • Conduct vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys.
  • Support Pacific Northwest and National emergency response teams.
  • Conduct fieldwork with a focus on health and safety.
