About The Position
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a GIS/Data Solutions Analyst to support the GIS needs of the Land Use and Mobility Options program area. This role involves assisting with data editing, analysis, and mapping of land use and multimodal transportation options such as bicycling, walking, and transit. The position will engage in dynamic projects, including a wide range of spatial analysis and data visualization activities to address complex transportation and land use needs for a growing metropolitan area.
Requirements

- Functional knowledge of fundamental Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and the Esri ArcGIS platform including ArcGIS Online applications such as Experience Builder, Instant Apps, Dashboards, etc.
- Functional knowledge of basic principles of cartography and ability to create mapping products
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., GIS, Geography, Spatial Sciences, or Urban/City Planning with a GIS focus preferred)
- One year or less of work-related experience
Responsibilities
- Assisting with GIS needs for planning projects, which may include guidance on selected GIS data sources, data editing, analysis, and map creation
- Providing technical support/troubleshooting to program area GIS users through a request process
- Preparing and conducting periodic training and best practice meetings for program area GIS users
- Acting as a liaison between program area GIS users and agency/department GIS coordination staff
- Utilizing ArcGIS Online to distribute data via dashboards, maps, and applications for external users as well as providing support to stakeholders
- Assisting with the creation of static maps for reports, presentations, etc. to successfully display and summarize relevant data, and to communicate the results
- Assisting with the compilation, inventory, and maintenance of geographic datasets in ArcGIS Pro through data editing and management (bikeways, sidewalks, transit provider layers) and converting data to and from various formats
- Developing a strong knowledge of NCTCOG’s in-house data sources and relevant external data (e.g., US Census American Community Survey) and guide program area staff on successful use
- Using basic knowledge of scripting languages and data analysis to automate and streamline processes
- Assisting with data maintenance operations including gathering, cleaning, geocoding, and integrating data from multiple sources
- Conducting occasional field work
- Assisting with the evaluation of information and data from outside sources to determine the quality of use in planning projects
- Monitoring current GIS and data analysis technologies and techniques through interaction with other GIS professionals and through the review of industry literature
- Coordinating and communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Documenting GIS workflows for team use on frequent and on-going tasks
- Preparing and delivering oral presentations
