About The Position

The City of Fresno is seeking a GIS Specialist to perform advanced technical work related to the analysis, use, development, and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role involves working with key staff across various departments to handle complex GIS tasks, including technical support, spatial data analysis, developing and maintaining layers, services, maps, and applications. A significant aspect of this role includes providing mapping expertise to the Police Department. There is currently one vacancy in the Information Services Department, and this eligible list will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies for three months, with the possibility of extension. Eligibles considered for the Police Department must pass a polygraph or computer voice stress analyzer test, an extensive background investigation, and a police department interview. Maintaining CJIS compliance is required throughout employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in GIS(T), geography, engineering, land surveying, computer science or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience operating, implementing, and maintaining automated mapping and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License may be required at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a GIS Technician with the City of Fresno.
