About The Position

The City of Fresno is seeking a GIS Specialist to perform advanced technical work related to the analysis, use, development, and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role involves working with key staff in various departments to provide GIS technical support, conduct spatial data analysis, develop and maintain layers, services, maps, and applications, and offer mapping expertise to the Police Department. There is currently one vacancy in the Information Services Department, and this eligible list will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies for three months, with the possibility of extension. Candidates considered for the Police Department may need to pass a polygraph test, background investigation, and police department interview, and must maintain CJIS compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in GIS(T), geography, engineering, land surveying, computer science or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience operating, implementing, and maintaining automated mapping and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License may be required at time of appointment.
• Must attach a copy of their bachelor's degree or college transcripts for verification of required units.
• Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
• The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Nice To Haves

• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Five (5) years of experience as a GIS Technician with the City of Fresno.
