GeoFORCE is a youth education outreach program created by the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas to recruit students in Austin, Houston, and Southwest Texas and develop future STEM leaders. Counselors are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of 10–12 students throughout a weeklong traveling academy and support coordinators with logistical and educational tasks. This role involves substantial travel and requires attendance at in-person training on May 25, 2027. Paid overtime of 40 or more hours during scheduled academy weeks is expected. Staff stay in hotels during the 9th–11th grade academy and in UT dorms with students during the 12th grade academy. The counselor must reside on a male-designated floor with participants; for rooming and supervision assignments, the position is open to individuals whose biological sex is male. Counselors must follow University of Texas Youth Protection Program, Human Resources, and GeoFORCE Texas policies, including a zero-tolerance no-alcohol policy during field experiences and child-safety training. CPR/First Aid certification is provided by the program, and counselors may need to provide first aid or CPR in the field. Finalists are subject to a criminal history background check.
