About The Position

Support the Space and Geophysics Laboratory of ARL (SGL) with graduate assistance and research. This role involves developing algorithms and software in the areas of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), advancing the state of the art in space geodesy. The position also includes participation in field experiments, collecting, processing, and analyzing data from a novel radio interferometer, and developing software for position and timing solutions from sequential GNSS satellite observations.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Geodesy, or related field.
  • Current UT Austin graduate student enrolled in at least 9 credit hours during the long semester and 3 credit hours in the summer.
  • Research interest in radio astronomy, VLBI, GNSS, geodesy, or related field.
  • Experience in programming in object-oriented languages (C++ or Python).
  • Overall GPA of at least 3.0 is expected.
  • US Citizen.
  • Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Matlab or Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithms and software in the areas of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), advancing the state of the art in space geodesy.
  • Participate in field experiments by collecting, processing and analyzing data from a novel radio interferometer consisting of a GNSS software-defined radio receiver and a 25-meter VLBA radio telescope.
  • Help develop software for position and timing solutions from sequential GNSS satellite observations, leading to an advancement of our understanding of the Earth’s surface and interior.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Benefits

  • UTSaver voluntary retirement programs
