About The Position

The Department of Pathology of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a full time Faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor) with genitourinary (GU) and renal pathology subspecialty training. The recruit will serve as an attending pathologist and educate others in (GU) pathology, including prostate, bladder, kidney, and testis pathology and in medical renal pathology including frozen section assessment of donor kidney biopsies, transplant biopsies and native kidney biopsies. The attending pathologist will be part of a multidisciplinary team, inclusive of a team of senior pathologists as well as other subspecialty trained physicians; thus, strong verbal and written communication and professionalism skills are expected. This position is an academic post; hence, scholarly activity and teaching of pathology residents is expected and time for these activities will be provided. Additional interest and expertise in cardiovascular pathology would be preferred. The general responsibilities and expectations of this position mirror the missions of the Departments and affiliated systems, including: excellence in clinical care, medical undergraduate and graduate education and scholarship. The successful applicant will join a group of three dozen subspecialty surgical pathologists, including 3 genitourinary pathologists, 2 renal pathologists, and 1 cardiovascular pathologist who currently contribute to the practice of multi-disciplinary team based subspecialty pathology practice at the University of Colorado Hospital. The position includes regularly scheduled clinical and intraoperative frozen section work as well as some general anatomic pathology on call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • MD, DO, or equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited Anatomic Pathology Residency Program
  • Board certified in Anatomic Pathology and the credentials to obtain medical licensure in Colorado, followed by a University appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
  • Completion of fellowships in genitourinary, renal, and cardiovascular pathology fellowship or extensive relevant experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship

Responsibilities

  • Promote quality patient care through the sign out of routine and complex genitourinary cases, renal cases, cardiovascular cases, and other case types from UCH and affiliated clinics as well as consulting institutions, pathologists, and patients.
  • Adherence to the quality standards and regulatory requirements associated with the anatomic pathology laboratories, as well as UCH and affiliated clinics
  • Ensure timely completion and accurate reporting of pathology tests associated with your practice, consultations, or translational research.
  • Consult with peer pathologists on cases as requested or required by policy.
  • Participate in the education of pathologists and affiliated non-pathologist providers through consultations, including at multidisciplinary clinics, and the application and education associated with test interpretation.
  • Train and supervise pathology and non-pathology students, residents, and fellows.
  • Engage in scholarly activities as broadly defined by the School of Medicine, inclusive of the scholarship of application, teaching, integration, and discovery.
  • Maintain exemplary professionalism and continue to develop collaborative relationships with the pathology community and non-pathology providers.
