About The Position

This role involves performing various laboratory duties using a laboratory information system (LIS) for accessioning, identifying errors, and communicating with staff. The technician will also be responsible for routine cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of laboratory supplies. Key responsibilities include following established procedures for DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and routine analysis, while ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards. Quality control and assurance procedures are essential to maintain testing standards. Professional development is encouraged, with sitting for a certification exam within 2 years of service being strongly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Using laboratory information system (LIS) perform log in and accessioning.
  • Identify requisition and additional paperwork errors and sample inconsistencies.
  • Communicate with appropriate staff when information is needed to successfully accession a test.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance procedures for laboratories.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and their storage.
  • Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and policies for all laboratory duties performed including, but not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis and routine analysis.
  • Understand and apply appropriate policies and procedures for work flow, testing, and/or methodology.
  • Perform dedicated duties on a timely basis.
  • Appropriately document work as necessary.
  • Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards.
  • Document compliance as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics.
  • May be responsible for ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and/or efficient environment for employees, patients, and/or families.
  • Perform routine quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure maintenance of laboratory testing standards.
