Genetic Counselor (Temporary 6-months, Benefitted)
About The Position
The Genetic Counselor provides genetic counseling and risk assessment for the patients and families at CHOC with an emphasis on family centered care through expert practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team; serves as a resource for the medical, nursing, and ancillary team members and community providers. Utilizes evidence-based clinical care and knowledge of genetic counseling and inborn errors. Participates in professional activities including professional lectures, publications, research, text review, or active participation in professional organizations. This is a temporary, part-time position for approximately 6 months. The hours are Tues-Thurs, 8am-4:30pm, and this position will be eligible for benefits.
Requirements
- Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling.
- Experienced in working with patients and families in a clinical setting.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to engage in effective conflict resolution.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent presentation/education skills.
- Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards and respect.
- Ability to advance care through development of new ideas and technology.
- Ability to promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission.
- Ability to understand and exceed customer expectations.
- Ability to effectively solve complex patient care and organizational problems.
- Ability to role model positive and professional behavior.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Licensed Genetic Counselor - CA.
Nice To Haves
- Three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
