About The Position

The Institute for Precision Health at the University of California, Irvine seeks a motivated and collaborative Genetic Counselor to support precision medicine initiatives. This role bridges clinical genomics, data-driven healthcare delivery, and translational research, with the goal of improving the appropriate use of genetic testing and advancing personalized care. The Genetic Counselor will work closely with clinicians, laboratory partners, informatics teams, and researchers to design and administer an institution-wide genetic test utilization program that connects to specialty and research programs in genomics and precision health.

Requirements

Possess excellent genetic counseling and psychosocial skills.
Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Clear and effective communication of complex genetic information to diverse audiences (patients, providers, researchers).
Written communication skills for documentation, reports, and academic output.
Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Working knowledge of genetic testing technologies (e.g., gene panels, exome/genome sequencing, CNV analysis, repeat expansion testing).
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Master’s degree from a recognized genetic counseling program or equivalent culmination of education and experience.
Board certification in genetic counseling by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
Board certification in genetic counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling upon hire.
Genetic Counselor License from California.
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in genetic counseling (postmaster’s degree), at least one of which should include administration, supervision, or major responsibilities for independent programs.
Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of clinical indications for genetic testing across multiple specialties (e.g., neurogenetics, oncology, rare disease).
Ability to identify opportunities for quality improvement and innovation in precision health.
