About The Position

As a Genetic Counselor II, you will deliver comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients and families in accordance with established professional practice guidelines. Clinical responsibilities are generally centered in an assigned practice area, with flexibility to provide clinical coverage across other practice areas based on departmental and organizational needs.

Requirements

• Deliver comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients and families in accordance with established professional practice guidelines.
• Analyze intake information and determine if appropriate appointments have been scheduled.
• Demonstrate knowledge, competency skills and intervention techniques in GC clinical services.
• Assess recurrence risks and recommend medical or genetic testing based upon analysis of risk, benefit and cost.
• Ensure proper completion of counseling paperwork.
• Interact and communicate regularly with the medical geneticist(s) and/or other supervising physician(s).
• Communicate both normal and abnormal results and coordinate appropriate follow-up with medical geneticist and/or supervising physician.
• Provide crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling regarding genetic conditions; make referrals for ongoing care and support.
• Act as consultant to referring physicians regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to the management of their patients.
• Participate in regular staff meetings; work to establish her/himself as a team member, providing coverage for colleagues as necessary.
• Provide genetic counseling in accordance w/applicable standards of professional care.
• Attend continuous education courses, attend meetings, and review medical literature. Stay current in GC field.
• Provide case management for complex genetic cases, including coordinating medical recommendations, testing, and ongoing counseling.
• Contribute to quality/development of clinical services, participate in specialty sections, and coordinate specific services or specific projects.
• Actively participate in outreach, education, and training activities.
• Provide comprehensive genetic counseling services for programs in the Center for Genomic Medicine, as assigned, which may include adult and pediatric patients in general and subspecialty clinics.
