About The Position

The Center for Fetal Medicine and Reproductive Genetics (CFMRG) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a multidisciplinary reproductive genetics program committed to providing exceptional, patient-centered care across prenatal, reproductive, and fetal genetics services. The Genetic Counselor I works alongside licensed genetic counselors and physicians to provide genetic counseling, education, care coordination, and support to individuals and families navigating reproductive and prenatal genetic care. This role contributes to high-quality clinical care through counseling, genetic test coordination, clinical documentation, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Requirements

  • Works alongside licensed genetic counselors and physicians to provide genetic counseling, education, care coordination, and support to individuals and families navigating reproductive and prenatal genetic care.
  • Contributes to high-quality clinical care through counseling, genetic test coordination, clinical documentation, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ability to obtain and assess personal, medical, pregnancy, and family histories to identify and evaluate genetic risks.
  • Ability to educate patients and families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, screening and diagnostic testing options, and the potential benefits, limitations, and outcomes of testing.
  • Ability to support patients in making informed decisions regarding genetic testing and reproductive care.
  • Ability to communicate genetic test results and provide appropriate follow-up counseling, education, and support.
  • Ability to coordinate genetic testing, referrals, and follow-up care in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, laboratories, and external healthcare organizations.
  • Ability to facilitate timely communication among patients, families, and members of the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Ability to support scheduling, insurance authorization, test tracking, and other activities that help ensure continuity of care.
  • Ability to help patients navigate complex reproductive and prenatal care pathways.
  • Ability to document patient encounters and clinical activities accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record.
  • Ability to maintain thorough records related to genetic testing, clinical outcomes, and patient communications.
  • Ability to prepare patient correspondence, clinical summaries, and reports.
  • Ability to contribute to clinical data collection, quality improvement, and program initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, obstetric providers, nurses, genetic counseling assistants, and other members of the reproductive genetics team.
  • Ability to participate in team meetings, educational conferences, case reviews, and other learning opportunities.
  • Ability to seek guidance and supervision from licensed genetic counselors and medical directors as appropriate.
  • Ability to stay current with developments in genetics, reproductive medicine, and genetic counseling practice.
  • Ability to contribute to patient and provider education initiatives within the department.
  • Ability to pursue opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and skills within a collaborative academic medical center environment.
  • Ability to participate in special projects, program development, and operational initiatives as assigned.
