This position assists genetic counselors in providing support to patients and families. Key responsibilities include collecting and organizing medical information, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate records. The role involves providing excellent service to both internal and external customers by applying best practices and standard operating procedures. The assistant will prepare correspondence, documents, reports, and other materials, some of which may be moderately complex or confidential and require independent judgment. Communication with families regarding pre-clinic information, insurance prior authorization, sample collection, result disclosure, and future plans is also a key part of the role, under the direction of clinical staff. The assistant manages lists of established genetics patients, monitors the status of pending clinical work-up, and enters patient data into the Ohio Department of Health and other research-based databases. Cross-functional collaboration with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians, and others is required for testing, status updates, delays, referrals, and sample collection.
