About The Position

The Ohio State University, Division of Human Genetics is seeking a dynamic genetic counselor for a clinician educator position to co-direct our Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. The Genetic Counseling Program Leadership team is responsible for the academic, operational, and administrative oversight of the genetic counseling program in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) Standards of Accreditation. Program leadership collectively provides the expertise, experience, and qualifications necessary to deliver a comprehensive and high‑quality genetic counseling curriculum. The leadership structure is intentionally designed to ensure program continuity and depth of expertise. Individuals serving in program leadership roles are supported with academic appointments and privileges comparable to faculty with similar academic responsibilities at The Ohio State University. In addition to graduate professional educational leadership, this position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge clinical care and research, leveraging our state-of-the-art facilities and collaborative environment. This position also includes opportunities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, PhDs, and MDs, fostering a synergistic approach to research and clinical care. This position is being recruited at an advanced clinical faculty rank and will require additional review and approval by the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). The appointment is therefore subject to a comprehensive review of applicable criteria and standards, in alignment with protocols outlined in the Department of Medicine’s Appointments, Promotion and Tenure document.

Requirements

  • Hold a master’s degree in the discipline of genetic counseling.
  • Have a current professional board certification in their specific field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in their field.
  • Have knowledge of and experience with the genetic counseling profession and practice.
  • Have knowledge and experience with the leadership roles assigned.
  • Have been the course instructor/instructor of record for at least two courses of post-secondary education.
  • Have completed at least 10 hours of training/coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, educational andragogy, or principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within the last 10 years.
  • Complete a minimum of two hours per year of continuing training/coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, or educational andragogy, including at least one hour of training/coursework related to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining program compliance with the ACGC Standards of Accreditation.
  • Developing, reviewing, and revising the program’s strategic plan, which may include mission, vision, goals, and/or philosophy.
  • Developing, reviewing, and overseeing the program admissions process.
  • Maintaining long-term fiscal stability of the program.
  • Administering the program year-round.
  • Maintaining open and honest communication regarding the program and students with the division director and college of medicine leadership.
  • Active participation in the provision of clinical genetic services in our clinics.
  • Teaching genetic counseling graduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Working on translational genetics research programs.
