The Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) provides specialized support to genetic counselors in the Departments of Clinical Genomics, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and the Center for Individualized Medicine. This role requires individuals to complete 2 years in the position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. Depending on the setting, responsibilities can include assisting with clinical case preparation, attaining family histories, facilitating genetic testing, tracking clinical test results, managing test utilization, providing client support, performing case management, assisting with genetic test resulting and reporting, and contributing to test implementation and maintenance. Research-focused roles involve assisting with research activities associated with formal research protocols, studies, and the return of research results to patients.
