About The Position

The Generator Mechanic keeps standby generator systems ready to run by performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs in the field. Working from blueprints and technical documentation, this role independently troubleshoots mechanical and electrical faults, completes load bank testing and inspections to verify performance, and documents every service accurately in company systems. Safety discipline and sound technical judgment are central to the role, which directly supports the reliability of power to Atlas operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 5 + years of generator, engine, or industrial equipment maintenance experience required
  • Thorough knowledge of generator installation, maintenance, and repair, including electronic, mechanical, and electrical components
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and load banks
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize service calls, and troubleshoot without direct supervision
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to document work in a maintenance management or service system
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certificate or associate degree in diesel technology, electrical technology, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline
  • Manufacturer-specific generator or engine training in Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, Generac engines preferred
  • Experience with switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and generator control panels
  • Experience in industrial, mining, manufacturing, energy, or heavy equipment operations

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, performance checks, and repair services on standby generator systems to ensure operational readiness.
  • Independently diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and technical documentation.
  • Read and follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, and design specifications to install, service, and repair generator equipment.
  • Complete load bank testing and scheduled inspections to verify generator performance under load.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and parts usage documentation in company systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with Atlas Energy Solutions safety standards, site protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements, including energy isolation lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Communicate equipment status, findings, and recurring issues to site leadership and the maintenance team in a timely manner.
  • Attend internal and external training as needed to build knowledge, skills, and required certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
