The Generator Lead Tech has advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and repairs relating to internal combustion engines, electrical circuits, and mechanical mechanisms applying to the repair of power generation equipment. This role involves advanced skills in determining the overall mechanical condition of generators and equipment, diagnosing component malfunctions, and initiating repair actions. The technician systematically analyzes malfunctions through visual and auditory examination or the use of test equipment. The role also includes performing repairs such as replacing engine heads, engine seals, various engine accessory components, and making engine overhead adjustments. Repairs, adjusts, and replaces major assemblies or sub-assemblies like generator ends, radiators, fuel system components, and exhaust system items. The technician performs operational inspections and ensures equipment is properly serviced prior to renting. Responsibilities extend to conducting repairs, services, and maintenance on other equipment types, including Light Towers, Fuel Tanks, Transfer switches, and distribution racks. The role requires proficiency in using technical manuals, wiring schematics, test equipment, and being well-versed in computer usage and Cummins-based diagnostic programs. The technician is skilled and knowledgeable in using hand and power tools, shop equipment such as forklifts, overhead lift cranes, welders, cutting and grinding tools, and follows proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste. Additionally, the technician has the knowledge and ability to teach and lead level 1, 2, and 3 technicians in the fundamentals of generator operations and all aspects of maintenance. The role also involves troubleshooting with customers over the phone as needed.
