About The Position

As a Generator and HVAC Mechanic, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of the Worldwide Field Support contract for the U.S. Army. You’ll play a crucial role in providing on-site technical and maintenance assistance, analyzing complex technical problems, and providing training to site operations and maintenance personnel. This role involves performing maintenance and sustainment support on generators ranging from 3kW to 150kW, 50/60/400hz, including installation and removal from fixed and mobile locations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing AC systems, DC systems, electronic control systems, and other program logic controls, as well as electrical wiring and accessories. The role also requires troubleshooting and repairing HVAC, Chillers, and Environmental Control Units, which can be standalone or mounted on trailers and vehicles. Additionally, the mechanic will maintain all types of commercial power generation equipment, military spec generators, and Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS), operate a Load bank during testing, and fabricate wire harnesses and solder terminals. Some work will be performed in a generator shop environment, and some in a field environment. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Extensive diesel generator experience.
  • Knowledge of generator parallel systems and switch gear.
  • Experience with brazing copper tubing and evacuating and recharging refrigerant.
  • Secret Security Clearance
  • US passport must not expire for at least 2 years
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • International driver’s permit (AAA)

Nice To Haves

  • Section 608 Technician Certification – EPA is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and sustainment support on 3kW to 150kW, 50/60/400hz generators involving installation and removal of generators from fixed and mobile locations, troubleshoots and repair alternating current (AC) systems, direct current (DC) systems, electronic control systems and other program logic controls, electrical wiring and accessories.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, Chillers, and Environmental Control Units – some are standalone units and others are mounted on trailers and vehicles.
  • Maintain all types of commercial power generation equipment; military spec generators and Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS).
  • Operate a Load bank during testing
  • Fabricate wire harnesses and solder terminals.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and services on all types of military and commercial generators and HVAC systems used by the U.S. Army to include the 150kW EPP III generators.
