About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for an experienced Generation Technician to join their Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE) maintenance and operations team in Mountain Home, Idaho. This role is crucial for providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities in Idaho and Oregon. The Generation Technician will be responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and testing power plant equipment and control systems with minimal supervision. This includes communications equipment, SCADA equipment, protective relays, telecommunications equipment, HVAC equipment, and other electrical equipment. The position also involves performing daily operating and maintenance functions for the Reciprocating Engine Power Plant and providing technical support to Generation Specialists. Project and site leader duties for electrical installation projects are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electrical theory fundamentals, measurements, control circuits, solid-state theory, and application/operations.
  • Knowledge of programming and application of PCs, PLCs, GUIs, HMIs, and SCADA RTUs.
  • Knowledge of low and medium voltage wiring (up to 4160V).
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics used by various equipment vendors.
  • Ability to maintain high productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to perform conflict resolution.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate's degree in electronics OR completion of a formal apprenticeship training program recognized by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship (OA) OR an equivalent combination of appropriate education, work, and military experience.
  • 5 years of work experience in electrical, electronics, instrumentation and control, control systems integration or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card prior to hire.
  • Must complete IPC Thermal Operations Accreditation program within 18 months of hire.
  • Physically able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of gas operations: Distributed control systems, CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System), and Protective Relays.
  • Large engine control and tuning experience.
  • 2 years of experience in the technician field including electronics, instrumentation and control systems integration in a reciprocating engine power plant.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, installs, maintains, and tests power plant equipment and control systems with minimal to no supervision.
  • Installs and maintains communications equipment, SCADA equipment, protective relays, telecommunications equipment, HVAC equipment, and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
  • Performs daily operating and maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the Reciprocating Engine Power Plant.
  • Provides technical resource support for Generation Specialists.
  • Performs project and site leader duties for electrical installation projects.
