About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for a Generation Specialist to join their Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE) maintenance and operation team. This role plays a critical part in providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities across Idaho and Oregon. The Generation Specialist performs daily operating and maintenance functions for the safe and efficient operation of reciprocating engine plants and facilities, including large engine overhauls and maintenance of ancillary equipment. They complete assigned tasks, may assume a lead role, and ensure generation availability for system loads at a remote and locally operated peaking facility.

Requirements

  • Fundamental electrical theory and the function, operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment through use of drawings and instructional manuals.
  • Operations and/or Maintenance of power plants.
  • Inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Welding and fabrication, large reciprocating engine maintenance.
  • Computing systems, software, and programs, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Maintain high productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Establish positive working relationships in a team-based environment.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certificate of completion of a Generation Specialist training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA) OR 3 years of experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance OR 3 years large diesel engine maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Must complete IPC Thermal Operations Accreditation program within 18 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct work experience in maintenance of power plants, mines, or other industrial applications.
  • AAS in Diesel/Onsite Power Generation or Certifications in heavy machinery maintenance, marine diesel maintenance, ASE certified Large Diesel Engine Mechanic.

Responsibilities
