About The Position

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking candidates for the position of General Trades Tech 3 within the Office of Facilities and Support Services (OFSS). This role involves performing a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work in the repair, maintenance, or construction of state buildings and related structures. The position requires installation and maintenance of security, climate control, and other facilities systems. The General Trades Tech 3 will also perform complex administrative duties, data analysis, and reporting to support management decision-making. This role may involve partnering with other departments, administering projects, grants, and contracts, and providing support or guidance to junior team members. The position is located in Troup County, Georgia, with required travel and 24-hour on-call availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED AND three (3) years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment; OR Two (2) years of experience at the lower level General Trades Tech 2 (FET031) or position equivalent.
  • Must have leadership skills and be able to work well with other employees.
  • Good work habits and ability to manage time well.
  • Good analytical/critical thinking.
  • High multi-tasking ability.
  • Maintains a 24-hour emergency on call availability.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical experience a plus.
  • Some positions may require area-specific certifications/licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff.
  • Coordinates the engineering, maintenance, renovation, and construction of facilities.
  • Oversees the use of contractors and contracted maintenance employees working on company property and equipment, ensuring they work safely and efficiently.
  • Reviews plans and conducts on-site inspections to ensure work is performed according to established guidelines.
  • Works with the available resources and oversees projects, purchases, preventative maintenance and work orders.
  • Responsible for maintaining an efficient parts and supply inventory.
  • Manages subordinate supervisors and staff.
  • Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time.

  • Maintains and promotes a safe working environment.
  • Design and implement safety programs.
  • Responsible for addressing facility breakdowns that can occur after work hours, weekends and holidays.
